Net Zero Is A Key Part of The Solution to The Climate Crisis! Net Zero Expert, Enock Ebbah: 1.5°C Is The Range We Must Hold

“Global Warming” has become the term of “Climate Crisis” which the world must face together. Impact of this phenomenon is not only temperature change, but also a threat that seriously affects human life.

In 2013, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the main reason (95%) of global warming is human. In order to prevent the rise of temperature, IPCC formulated “2050 Net Zero” for the whole world to implement.

《The Icons》invited Enock Ebbah, expert of net-zero, to talk about 2050 net-zero for us.

2050 is approaching, can net zero succeed?

“The net-zero aims to control the temperature of the earth, keep the temperature rise within 1.5°C, reduce carbon emissions with various industries and countries, and achieve the target globally by 2050.”

Enock said that net-zero needs to be gradually executed; 2050 is only a more realistic deadline for the world, so that countries and companies can arrange plans for carbon reduction in stages, and it can also allow the advanced countries to take the lead.

“Many phased plans have already been implemented. For example, by 2030, all new buildings must achieve the net-zero building standard for reducing the carbon emissions”

Enock mentioned that the way for companies to achieve net-zero can is through the “Science Based Targets initiative” (SBTi); SBTi is a set of scientific processes to help companies reduce carbon emissions, through CFV and feasible targets to reduce the impact on the environment.

“Net-zero is imperative, but we can’t rush it. Enterprises and governments can implement short-term goals first, and each of us can do our part by using public transportation or reducing consumption of high-carbon-emission foods. By that, the world will slowly reach net zero by 2050.”
