After the industrial revolution, the emission of GHG (Greenhouse Gas) is climbing dramatically, in order to pursue progress, human beings who had ignored nature and consumed it excessively now have to face the karma and sanctions from where we’ve been taken.
The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) indicated in 2021 the continuous global warming has caused numerous persecutions to the environment. Polar bears can only scramble on thin ice due to the melting icebergs; acidification of the ocean makes it difficult for aquatics such as clams, mussels and shrimps to grow shells normally for survival; bees rather miss the pollination period or die in a large number due to the climate change, which represent the temperature of the earth can easily change the biodiversity by rising 1 to 2 degrees. We can only watch and do nothing?
“We have the solution to prevent the disasters, but we need everyone to do it!” TW Market Leader of The Dun & Bradstreet, Michelle Sun said during the interview in《The Icons》.
Without CFV, don’t count on trade!
“After the UN showed their will to global warming at the drop of a hat, other countries saw eye to eye.”
Michelle mentioned that since the EU (European Union) announced the “Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)” on July 14, 2021, targeting importers of steel, aluminum, cement, fertilizer, electricity, hydrogen, ammonia, organic chemicals, plastics, etc’s tax control, will be officially implemented in 2026.
“Everyone who wants to import and export with the EU must do the CFV (Carbon Footprint Verification) otherwise you can’t do the trade. You think that’s harsh? Well, in this way, suppliers and importers will do a sustainable job during the production, we must earn our ticket for living then we can talk about the development.”
The U.S. also followed up the EU in launching carbon border taxes: “CCA (Clean Competition Act)”, which will be officially executed in 2024, targeting importers of 25 industries’ CFV such as fossil fuels, petroleum products, fertilizers, hydrogen, and steel, and the U.S. domestic manufacturers, requiring their own industries and foreign importers, suppliers to reach the net zero.
“From the EU to the US, and to others, the world is taking action!”
Michelle said: “Taiwan announced in 2023, a carbon fee will be set for per ton for carbon emission sectors such as electricity, cement, steel, and optoelectronic semiconductors. These actions all aim for the 2050 net zero target.”
World famous brands lead the carbon reduction!
“The way to protect the environment is comprehensive. The iPhone in your hand can also protect the environment.” Michelle pointed to the mobile phone in the reporter’s hand.
Not only the governments, but also many well-known brands have begun to respond to environmental protection, such as Adidas, launched the first pair of cloth shoes that was made from marine waste; Apple required suppliers to use 100% renewable energy; TSMC had more than 700 supply chains to promote the green manufacturing and so on, all of them valued the environmental protection issues, they all showed the arousal of protecting the environment.
Michelle emphasized these actions also respond to many aspects of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including 7th: Affordable and Clean Energy; 13th: Climate Actions ; 14th: Life below Water; 15th: Life on Land.
“According to international relations, diplomacy, or multinational industrial chains, the issue of CFV is obvious, especially now many SMEs’ owners cannot escape this matter. You have to face it so that your business can earn the tickets for survival!”
