In today’s society, ESG issues have become an undeniable cornerstone across industries. We had the privilege to sit down with Jerry Chi-Wei Chen, Deputy General Manager of ABBA Aluminum CO., LTD., the leader in Taiwan’s lightweight metal industry, to discuss how the company has repeatedly conveyed its commitment to sustainability through various exhibitions and demonstrated outstanding contributions in the realm of social responsibility.
Aluminum, being one of the most abundant metals on Earth’s surface, boasts remarkable malleability, durability, corrosion resistance, and recyclability, making it one of the most environmentally friendly lightweight metal materials available. Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of the energy needed for primary aluminum production, significantly reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption.
Chen: ABBA Doesn’t Stop at Environmental Sustainability; Also Extends Its Caring hand to The Community
Aluminum finds wide-ranging applications in transportation, aerospace, military, as well as everyday products, construction, electronics, photonics, and petrochemical industries. As the flagship in Taiwan’s aluminum building materials industry, ABBA has long been recognized for supplying high-quality aluminum construction materials to renowned architects and builders.
Chen states, “Our ESG policy focuses on two main aspects: sustainability and social responsibility. In terms of sustainability, we are committed to utilizing aluminum-based sustainable materials to reduce our environmental footprint. Simultaneously, we emphasize social responsibility by supporting vulnerable groups through donations, community engagement, and scholarships.”
“Furthermore, during the pandemic, we took comprehensive action. We not only established three negative pressure isolation rooms for three hospitals but also provided over a hundred positive pressure screening stations to assist healthcare professionals in their screening efforts. In times of crisis, businesses should demonstrate a spirit of love for their homeland and community.”
ABBA Joins Hands with Like-minded Enterprises to Create a Brighter Sustainable Future
Chen also mentioned his desire to bring fresh perspectives to future exhibitions, part of which involves collaborating with enterprises that share the same sustainable vision to participate in this year’s December Building Materials Expo. Currently, they are in close discussions and are eagerly anticipating the new sparks that will emerge from this collaboration.
In today’s evolving business landscape, companies are expected to do more than just pursue profit; they must also fulfill their social responsibilities. As a company deeply committed to ESG principles, ABBA doesn’t view profit as its sole goal. Instead, it integrates ESG principles into its core business and mission. They also hope that the government will establish more comprehensive standards to guide businesses, collectively exploring innovative solutions to address the challenges of integrating sustainability principles across industries.
In conclusion, Chen shared, “On our journey, we firmly believe that collaboration is the key to achieving sustainable development goals. We seek partnerships with like-minded enterprises, driven by shared values and commitments, to bring about positive change for society and the environment. We eagerly look forward to this collaboration continuing to create a better and more sustainable future for the entire industry and society as a whole.”
